Taking place on January 15 -17, 2017, in Toronto, Canada, the NorthEast Development Conference seeks to bring together community leaders, advocates, academics, content experts, professionals and other stakeholders to develop sustainable solutions and programs to address the needs of the Northern and Eastern Provinces.

Built from an intensive Needs Assessment conducted by the Department of Health, and Department of Education of the Northern Province, the conference goal is the development of sustainable, interdisciplinary and comprehensive solutions for immediate, medium term and long term health and educational priorities. The larger focus of the conference is health, education, and economic development.

The Education stream of the Conference will occur on January 15, 2017, focusing on the following 3 thematic areas:

  • Psychosocial Wellbeing of Students and Teachers
  • Teaching, Learning and Examinations
  • Administration, Appointments, Promotions, Transfers & Teacher Issues.

The Health stream of the conference will occur January 16 -17, 2017, focusing on the following 5 thematic areas:

  • Disability, Rehabilitation, and Palliative Care
  • Injury Prevention, and Emergency Health Care
  • Mental Health Issues
  • Human Resource Development
  • Health Informatics

The Conference will serve a secondary measure in the development of sub-committees that will act as active expert reference groups to the Northern and Eastern Provincial Ministries in select areas of expertise.

This Conference has been developed in collaboration with the Provincial Governments of both the Northern and Eastern Provinces of Sri Lanka and the Canadian Tamil Congress.
